Balala Wind Farm
The Project

Balala Wind Farm Project
EDF power solutions Australia is investigating the proposed Balala Wind Farm, located around 10 kilometres west of Uralla in New South Wales. Studies are underway to understand its generation capability and associated impacts, to inform its viability.

Investigation Area
The area we are investigating is private farmland. The location was chosen because of its proximity to the electrical grid and its anticipated wind resource.
Project Map
This map shows the indicative turbine locations proposed by EDFA as part of the Scoping Report that EDFA is finalising. The Scoping Report will be submitted to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, who will then issue the Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) outlining the matters that must be investigated as part of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
The turbine locations shown are indicative only.
The final project layout will be determined following detailed technical studies and community and stakeholder engagement undertaken through the EIS process.

Project Timeline
The proposed project is at the start of the planning state. During the next two to three years we will undertake:
Wind Monitoring
Environmental Studies
Neighbour and Community Consultation
Preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
Neighbour and community consultation commenced in 2025 and will continue throughout the process. We encourage neighbours and community members to get in touch to discuss any aspect of the project.
Pre-2025
Site Selection and Pre-feasibility Study
2025
Preparation of Scoping Report
2026 - 2029
EIS and Approvals
2030 - 2032
Construction
2032 - 2062

Development
The project will be assessed as a State Significant Development project by the NSW government. As part of this process, the NSW government will require EDFA to prepare detailed studies including but not limited to:
Biodiversity
Heritage
Visual
Noise
Traffic
